Mary Catherine (Ambrose) Karas

Mary Catherine Ambrose Karas was born in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, New York on July 25, 1923. She lived in Midland Beach Staten Island until she married Steve A. Karas in 1948 and moved to Perth Amboy New Jersey. She was married for 59 years and resided in the house her husband built for her, for 65 years, until she recently moved to Woodbridge N.J. She worked for Bell telephone for over 30 years.  She enjoyed her large family, including 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She also enjoyed writing poetry and won awards for her published poems. She was involved as a hospital volunteer for Raritan Bay Hospital, PA Division, a member of the Perth Amboy Women’s Club, and also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Lioness Women’s Club, Perth Amboy.
    She is preceded by her husband Steve, brothers David and Vincent. She is survived by her son Stephen Karas (Lori) of Iselin, Kevin Karas (Carol) of Flemington and David Karas (Faith) of Iselin, her sister Ann Preisser of Virginia and brother William Ambrose of New York, sister-in-laws Barbara Ambrose of Fla, Mary Gorka, Rose Thompson and many nieces and nephews.     

    Visitation will be held on Monday, July 20th, from 4PM to 8PM at the Gosselin Funeral Home 660 New Dover Road, Edison. Funeral Mass Tuesday July 21th 10:00AM at Blessed John Paul ll Parish, 490 State Street, Perth Amboy. All to meet at Church. Interment St Stephen Cemetery, Keasbey.
