William “Bill” Petty was born on August 23, 1946 in Plainfield, New Jersey and was raised in Woodbridge, New Jersey, graduating from Woodbridge High School in 1964. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably for six years. Bill passed away at his home in South Plainfield, New Jersey, on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was a hardworking man, starting out as a railroad engineer, and eventually starting his own business, Petty Construction. But his most cherished role was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Bill was an avid fisherman, and he also enjoyed traveling with his family. He loved dining out and trying new cuisine and restaurants. He was a die-hard New York Yankees fan, and in his downtime, Bill enjoyed going to the racetrack and playing poker with friends.
Bill is survived by his wife Linda of South Plainfield, New Jersey; daughters Lisa Santone of Orlando, Florida, Robyn and husband Gary Grimes of Flemington, New Jersey; brother Jack Petty and wife Deborah of Edison, New Jersey; his grandchildren Matthew and Monique Santone, Lacey and Barbara Santone, Anthony Santone, Calli Grimes, Kyra Grimes, and Cade Grimes; and great-grandchildren Christian and Colette Santone, Victor and Gabriel Rivera; nephew Jack Petty, Jr., and nieces Krystle “Petty” Quinn and Leah “Petty” Bonner.
Visitation service will be held on Sunday, June 11th from 4:00PM-8:00 PM at Gosselin Funeral Home, 660 New Dover Road Edison, NJ 08820. A blessing will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 12th at Gosselin Funeral Home. This will be followed by an entombment at 11:30 AM at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, 53 Inman Ave, Colonia, NJ.
