William R. Sabunas

William R. Sabunas of Colonia, NJ, passed away at the age of 80 after a brief illness on November 4, 2023.  William was born in Elizabeth, NJ to the late Alexander and Anna Sabunas before moving to Linden, NJ.  He served in the Air Force National Guard.  William worked at Allied Signal/Honeywell and retired after 38 years of service.

William is survived by his loving wife, Antoinette, of 53 years; his beloved daughter, Tina Sabunas; sister-in-law, Fran Shanley; brother-in-law, Mario Gerardi & his wife Michelle; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was pre-deceased by his brother, Alexander Sabunas.  

William was an avid fisherman and spent many days/nights enjoying his time on the surf.  He found joy in sharing his stories and “secrets” with his special neighbors, Ben and Johnny.  

For many years, you would find William on a softball field either practicing or proudly supporting his daughter pitch at Colonia High School and Villanova University.  He enjoyed watching and attending Villanova Basketball games and could always be seen dressed in his “Nova” gear.  

Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 8th, 2023, from 3 – 7 PM at the Gosselin Funeral Home, 660 New Dover Road, Edison, NJ.  The funeral service with military honors will be held on Thursday, November 9th at 10:30am at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, NJ.
