William R. Black Jr, beloved husband & father, passed away peacefully on July 6th, 2020 surrounded by his friends and his wife, in a place that made him the happiest. He was born in NYC, later moving to Union City and then Cliffwood, NJ where he grew up. It was here that he met a handful of great people that would remain his lifelong friends. He met his wife while working at Bradco Supply Co. (now ABC Supply), where he worked for 38 years. They married in 1989 and then three years later they welcomed their daughter Kelly. He and his family moved back to the Cliffwood/Matawan area later in life where they raised their daughter, and then eventually moved to Edison where they settled with family.
William loved outdoor activities such as skeet shooting & golfing, but most importantly he loved to fish. He spent many days & nights out on the water with friends & family, always taking photos with his latest catch. He also loved music, especially classic Rock. He was known for making CD mixes and sharing them with family & coworkers – always wanting to connect with people through music. Some of his favorites included: Van Morrison, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Rush. He loved to sit in his backyard, stare out over the beautiful flowers he planted, turn on some tunes & relax with a cigar.
William will forever be remembered by his loving family, his co-workers & his friends that he loved so dearly. He was a gentle and kind soul, always lending a hand to those who needed help. His actions always spoke louder than his words & everyone that knew him, knew that to be true. His presence in this world will be missed greatly.
William was predeceased by his mother Theresa Black and is survived by his wife Lynn Black, daughter Kelly Black & partner John Sofo, father William Black Sr, sister Donna Donahue & brother-in-law Robert Donahue, brother Stephen Black, niece Alicia Donahue & fiancé Ryan O’Hara, brother-in-law Steven Valestin, many cousins, friends & co-workers who will always love him and keep his memory alive.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests making a donation to a nature preservation charity of your choice, to honor William’s love of the outdoors, or to directly donate to the family.
