Vivian W Conte

On Friday July 28th we lost our dear loving Mom, Grandmother - known as Nanny to all, Great Grandma, Aunt Viv.  Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ she moved to Edison in 1951 with her husband (deceased) William Conte to the honeymoon cottage he built for her on Parker Rd.  There she raised her daughter and embraced the growing community of Edison. An energetic fundraiser she sat on the Women's Auxiliary of the then JFK Hospital where she helped oversee the endowment of what was to become an award winning regional hospital. Never one to shy away from volunteering she would accompany her husband Bill as a fundraiser for the local Knights of Columbus events which gave them a wonderful social community creating many long lasting friendships. 

She began her career as the executive secretary for the VP of Colgate Palmolive then headquartered in Jersey City.  After 15 years as a stay at home Mom she went back to school earning her Associates Degree of which she was very proud as she valued education. Vivan worked for the Hanover Insurance Company for 15 years until she retired. She finished her career with the EPA as a Community Activist educating on the use of hazardous substances in the home. 

Vivan will be remembered for her energetic spirit, her love of life but most of all for her love & devotion to her family whom she adored. She is survived by her daughter Alison Covello, Granddaughter Stephanie Covello Swanson, Stephanie's husband Gavin Swanson and their son Maverick Jay Swanson,  Granddaughter Christina Covello, Grandson Nicholas Covello  & his wife Keely Brazil Covello. 

One of the Greatest Generation is gone but her legacy will endure. We will miss her every day. 

Visitation Monday July 31, 2023 from 10:30am to 12:30pm at the Gosselin Funeral Home 660 New Dover Road, Edison with a 12:30pm Blessing. Entombment St Gertrude Cemetery Colonia.
