Thomas C. Dietz, 84, of Edison, New Jersey, passed away on January 13, 2026.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Scoda (Eugene Massaro) of Manahawkin; son-in-law, Mark Scoda (Carol Febles) of Edison; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Scoda of Red Bank. He is predeceased by his sister, Marianne “Ducky” Lako; brothers, Stephen Dietz and James Dietz; and his beloved grandson, Kevin Scoda.
Tom was born in Newark on April 29, 1941. After serving in the army, Tom spent over 60 years in the scrap metal recycling industry. In 1974, he founded the scrap metal recycling center Federal Metals & Alloys in South Plainfield, which proudly continues to serve the community today.
Tom grew up an avid hunter who found peace and joy in the outdoors, especially during trips to his favorite place, Tioga, Pennsylvania. Whether enjoying quiet time in nature with family or lively poker nights with his grandson and friends, these moments brought him his greatest happiness.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tom’s name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital: https://www.stjude.org/donate/.
