Theresa B. Ciolek of Edison, New Jersey, aged 88, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025. Born on October 27, 1936, in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary McCabe. Known to many throughout her life as “Terri”, she was pre-deceased by her husband, Robert Charles Ciolek, to whom she was married for 65 years and who was the center of her life. She was also pre-deceased by her brother, Joseph McCabe, and her sisters, Eileen McCabe and Margaret McCabe.
Theresa is survived by her four children, Eileen, Robert, Mark and Doreen, as well as her cherished seven grandchildren, Alana, Lauren, Brooke, Kaitlyn, Kayla, Taylor and Thomas. She is also survived by two sisters’-in-law, Toni McCabe and Janet Niland.
Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, Theresa was a Registered Nurse who dedicated her life to the care of others. She worked for many years in the Emergency Room at RWJ Hospital in Rahway, NJ and then for nearly 30 years as a nurse in a pediatric practice in Edison, NJ until she retired at age 70.
Theresa loved being around people, and had a huge circle of friends, many of whom she had known for her entire life. Her greatest joys were the times she and her husband spent with their children and grandchildren for holidays, summer barbeques, Sunday dinners, summer vacations in Wildwood Crest, NJ, and other family events and celebrations.
She was also a devoted Catholic and long-time parishioner of St. Francis Cathedral in Metuchen, NJ. She was active in a women’s prayer group that met monthly for more than 40 years until her passing. Her warm spirit, kindness and devotion to family and friends will be missed by all who knew her.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis Tennessee (link provided as part of this obituary) or Best Friends Animal Society (bestfriends.org).
