Stanley L. Trela, Jr., 78, went home to be with the Lord on October 9, after a brief illness. He faced his cancer with unwavering faith and courage, surrounded by the love of his family. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 4 to 8 at the Gosselin Funeral Home, 660 New Dover Rd., Edison, N.J. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass at St. Agnes R.C. Church, Clark, N.J. Interment to follow in St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia, N.J.
Stanley, lovingly called "Stas" by his family, was born in Elizabeth on March 9, 1947 and has lived in Clark since 1980. Stanley was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He worked as an Accountant with Grant Thornton in New York for 35 years before retiring in 2011.
Stas was the heart of every room-a person whose generosity knew no bounds and whose stories would bring laughter and reflection to everyone. Baseball was a lifelong passion of his, whether it was listening on a transistor radio or sitting in the stands down the third baseline at Yankee Stadium.
A man of deep faith, Stanley lived out Christian values in daily life, not only through prayer and devotion but through acts of kindness, charity, and service. He was a devoted son who selflessly dedicated his life to caring for his beloved parents.
He joins in Heaven those parents, Stanley L. Trela and Genevieve P. (Pudlak) Trela; his brother, John J. Trela; his brother, Robert E. Trela, his sister in-law Maryann I. (Netta) Trela; and his brother in-law Joseph Reinhard.
Surviving him are his sister Carol Reinhard, sister-in-law Elizabeth Ann Trela; six nieces and nephews; Robin Trela (and fiancee Robert McGrath), Robert Trela Jr. (and wife Stephanie), Tammy Trela, Jeffrey Trela(and wife Christine), Ginene Kuchnicki(and husband Stephen), and Tracy Hearon; and ten great-nieces and nephews, Trevor, Sky, Avery, Alison, Robert III, Kaitlyn, Emilie, Coleen, Matthew, and Christian.
