Shawn Ortega

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Shawn Ortega, aged 59, on March 4th, 2026 in Colonia, NJ. He was a beloved father, husband, son, and friend, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love.

Born on August 20th, 1966 in Perth Amboy, Shawn was known for his sense of humor, infectious smile, bubbly personality, and his willingness to always help others. 

Shawn is survived by his wife Joy, his children Tyler and Brandon, his sister Darlene, his mother Dolores, and his step-children Lea, Steven, and Joseph. He was preceded in death by his father Ray. 

Throughout his life, Shawn had a passion for sports such as the Yankees, the Knicks, and the Rangers, Harley Davidson motorcycles, and music. As an accomplished coach of his son’s baseball team, he brought pride to the Merrill Park program by winning 3 championships for the first time in program history. Shawn was an extremely skilled carpenter and was highly valued by his coworkers and employers. He was the family's trusted handyman, always ready to lend a helping hand and offer his skills whenever needed.  

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 8th from 2-6pm at Gosselin Funeral Home (660 New Dover Road, Edison NJ 08820) where family and friends are invited to celebrate his life and share their memories.
