Robert Tarrant Obituary

Robert J Tarrant of Colonia NJ tragically died of Corvid-19 on April 9, 2020 at the age of 66.

He was born in Jersey City NJ to the late Daniel and Antoinette Tarrant.  He is survived by brothers Tom and his wife Mary Fran, Dan and his wife Mary, and Mark and his wife Molly, many nieces, nephews, and a great number of devoted friends.

He attended St. Cecelia’s Grammar School, and was on champion Golden Knights Pop Warner football teams in the late 1960s.  He graduated from St Joseph’s High School in Metuchen NJ in 1972 followed by Middlesex Community College Nursing School in 1980.

Robert, “Bob” as everyone called him spent his career caring for others as an Intensive Care Nurse at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.  Following is nursing career he became a Certified CPR Instructor for RWJBarnabas Health.

Bob was a devoted lover of the arts and other intellectual pursuits, including anything about food.  He was an inveterate reader.  He could quote Dylan Thomas, Bob Dylan, and other poets from memory, tell you the details of every boxing match of Mohammed Ali, and could have conversations and boisterous arguments on a range of topics from philosophy to medical science to politics into the early morning hours.

Most of all, Bob was a person who always volunteered to help others in need.  He was a major part of the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Cecelia’s Church, serving as its treasurer, and volunteering to visit those who appealed to the society for help when in need.

Bob was an important source of advice to friends, family and neighbors, and used his skills as a nurse to help others understand their medical issues.

After the death of his father in 1983, Bob moved back to his parent’s house to provide support and companionship for his mother.  Bob fulfilled his mother’s wish to live her final years at home as she progressed through Alzheimer’s disease from 1996 to 2002.

Donations can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Cecelia Church, 45 Wilus Way, Iselin, NJ 08830.
