Robert M (Bobby) Cosgrove

Robert M. Cosgrove, 64, of Iselin, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 16, 2025 with his loving and devoted wife by his side.

Born in Newark, NJ, Robert was a lifelong resident of Iselin, NJ. He graduated from John F. Kennedy Memorial High School in 1979. He proudly served in the United States Coast Guard from 1985 to 1993, earning numerous commendations for his bravery and leadership. He worked as a Technical Operations Supervisor for Comcast for close to 20 years. 

Robert found joy in fishing, gardening, creating, inventing, drumming, exploring New Jersey and spending time with his beloved family, friends, and pets—including three stray cats that he cared for.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Bernice Cosgrove, and his mother-in-law, Helene Varga.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Susan Cosgrove (nee Varga); his four sisters: Theresa Cosgrove; Mary Brooks and her husband, Timothy; Kathleen Street; and Colleen Melillo and her husband, Paul. He was a proud uncle to Matthew Brooks and his wife Amerika, Zachary Brooks, Jennifer Brooks, Paul Melillo Jr., Tyler Street, Nicholas Street, Megan Varga-Farnham, and Rachel Varga-Farnham. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Richard Varga, and his partner, Betty Babiarz; his brother-in-law, Christopher Varga, and his husband, Gregory Farnham; his aunt, Jeannie Cosgrove; and many cousins and dear friends.

Robert will be remembered for his kind heart, boundless energy, and the sparkle he brought into every room. His legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him and of him.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025 from 5-8 PM at the GOSSELIN FUNERAL HOME, with a Blessing at 8:00 PM.  Friends and love ones can gather at the funeral home at 11:00 AM to proceed to St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, NJ for the Inurnment that will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 11:30 AM.
