Richard McClish, 90, of Newark, NJ, passed away on November 10, 2024 in Edison, NJ. Richard was born in Newark, NJ to Richard McClish and Catherine Wilson on August 11, 1934. He went to vocational school to specialize and earn certification in air conditioning and refrigeration. Richard was a US veteran, serving in the US Army from 1953 to 1956. After serving in the Army, Richard worked as an air conditioning and refrigeration mechanic, which landed him a career at AirCon, Inc. for over 25 years. As a man of many facets, Richard was an avid listener of hymns and served as a Deacon at Pilgrim Baptist Church (of Newark, NJ), which included teaching Sunday School and participating in the Hospitality Committee to visit the “sick and shut in” members of the congregation. In addition to Richard’s religious service, he ventured into politics, running for Councilman At-Large between 1971 and 1975.
Richard is survived by his children: Sheila, Darlene, David, Darryl and Kenya; sisters: Juanita, Phyllis, and Catherine (“Kitty”); sixteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 48 years Yvonne; daughter Reneé; brother Richard; sisters: Delores (“Chico”) and Gwendolyn (“BoBo”).
A viewing will be held at Gosselin Funeral Home in Edison, NJ on November 16, 2024 from 10am to 1pm. The viewing will be followed by entombment at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens in Woodbridge, NJ at 1:30pm.
