Ramon was born on September 19, 1991, to Ramon and Leonila (Navarro) Mariazeta in Edison, New Jersey. He was the only child born to the couple. Ramon was born prematurely and had some medical issues and learning disabilities while growing up. Despite all the challenges he grew up able to communicate simply, read and sing.
Friends and family fondly called Ramon, “ RJ”. He loved to play with Thomas the Train and read all the children’s books about Thomas all his life. That was a big accomplishment for RJ as his parents were told he would not be able to read or communicate because of severe learning disabilities. His parents’ patience and perseverance in teaching RJ and sending him to special education school enabled him to read simple books, take care of his personal needs, memorize Filipino and the many popular songs of the 60s, 70s all the way through the present time. RJ was a good singer. He was the go to person to sing Happy Birthday for his friends and family.
RJ’s parents took him to Sunday mass every week. He learned all the songs at his church and everyone knew when RJ was in attendance with his beautiful singing voice. RJ also loved greeting people. He would say hello or hi to his parents’ many friends whom he knew by name. RJ enjoyed going to the Philippine Independence Day parades in New York, cruise vacations, and his mom’s conventions with the Philippine Nurses Association. Despite his disabilities RJ was able to participate in several medical missions to the Philippines performing simple duties under adult supervision.
The two vacations that RJ looked forward to every year were his June and December vacations to San Diego. He was the most precious gift Ramon and Leonie gave to RJ’s grandmother for her birthday in June and he was the Christmas joy who came every December to celebrate with the family.
RJ will be missed by so many. He is survived by his parents, Ramon and Leonie, Grandmother Naty, Uncle Steve, Aunties: Let, Imelda, Estela, Cecilia, Cristina, Glenda and Flora including many cousins, nieces and nephews.
