On September 13, 2023 Pietro Bagnato passed away at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick at the age of 74. Born in Bagnara, Calabria, Italy before moving to Brooklyn, NY, he resided in Colonia, NJ since 1984.
Pietro is survived by his wife of 45 years, Josephine (Coppola); his sons Frank and his wife Kristina; Dominick and his wife Kimberly; Christopher; Daniel; his daughter Ariana; as well as his cherished grandchildren Tabitha and Violet. Pietro is predeceased by his mother Rosa and father Francesco, as well as his brothers Paul, Walter, and sister Maria. Pietro was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Pietro has been a member of the St. John Vianney Church in Colonia for 39 years. Pietro was a life long soccer fan, loyal to his favorite team, Juventus. He played semi-professional soccer in Italy before moving to America and starting a family, where he loved coaching his children in youth and high school soccer leagues. Pietro valued nothing more than being surrounded by loved ones, especially at the kitchen table during Friday pizza nights and Sunday pasta lunches. To him, family was the most important team of all. Pietro was generous, great at lighting a room with laughter, full of conviction, and always gave the same parting words to everyone he cared for: “Be good.” One can only hope to be as good of a person as he was.
Visitation will be held on Monday September 18, 2023 at Gosselin Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday September 19, 2023 as St. John Vianney, Colonia at 10:00 A.M. Entombment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
