Peter John Kenny, 83, of Iselin, NJ, passed away peacefully at JFK University Medical Center surrounded by his loving family on July 7th, 2021. Born in Brooklyn, New York to the late Peter and Margaret Kenny on January 24th, 1938, Peter was raised in Greenpoint and graduated from Chelsea Vo-Tech High School in 1956, and upon graduation, he served in the Army and was stationed in Germany from 1956-1959. He was also in the Army Reserves until 1962.
Upon his return to the United States, Peter met and married his loving wife of 58 years, Rose Kenny. Together, they moved to Iselin, New Jersey 49 years ago, where they raised two children, their first born Peter and devoted daughter Cheryl. Further, Peter was a dedicated employee at both Edison Post Office and Bishop George Ahr High School, and an avid member of Knights of Columbus.
A devoted family man, Peter was the family’s rock, and is remembered as being a kind, patient, and loyal man who was there for anyone in need. Those who knew Peter will never forget his ever-present smile, and his knack for telling jokes and riddles. While Peter had many accomplishments in life, it was clear to those who knew him that his true calling in life was to be a grandfather to his four cherished grandchildren, Peter Jason, Melissa, Abby and Aidan. Peter Jason has a special bond as his first born grandchild,, Melissa who is following in his footsteps by serving in the Army, Abby who loved reading with him and will always be his "girl" and Aidan who he loved watching play baseball and collecting coins and will always be his "buddy".
Besides his wife, children, and grandchildren, Peter is survived by his, sisters Kathleen Ward, Marjorie Schlick, and Betty Anne Weber, sister-in-laws Dolores Warwick and Paula McManus, brother-in-law Scotty McManus, by several nieces and nephews- especially Debbie, who was always there for him even during his final days, and will be missed by countless friends.
Peter was a man with a big heart, who both loved, and was loved, by many. His family has fond memories of Peter’s love for Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, morning walks around the mall, watching every episode of NCIS in his free time.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation for Peter on Friday, July 23rd, 2021 from 4-8 PM at Gosselin Funeral Home in Edison New Jersey. Services celebrating Peter’s life will be held Saturday, July 24th, 2021 at 11:30 AM at St. Cecelia’s Church, located in Iselin, NJ. Graveside services will be private.
