Peter John Gilleece, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Peter was born in Newark and then moved to Irvington. Peter was the 1949 NJ Group IV cross country and the 1950 track (mile) state champion while attending Irvington High School. He and his wife Frances raised their family in Irvington, before moving to Colonia in 1979.
Peter was a machinist with American Can Company, Hyatt Clark and The Naval Station Earl.
Peter was very active with the Woodbridge Irish Association, the Woodbridge Seniors Association, McGovern’s Association and always attended the IHS Reunion.
Peter camped with his family (5 kids, a dog and a wife who could not read a map) and friends for years and loved traveling, especially to Enniskillen County Fermanagh and Donegal. His quick wit and humor will be missed by all.
Peter was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Frances. As well as his parents Sarah and James Gilleece, his sister Mary (Molly) Gilleece, his brothers James and John.
Surviving are his children; Peter Gilleece and his partner Bridget, Chris Gilleece, Eileen Greaves and her husband Michael, James Gilleece and his wife Damaris, Michael Gilleece and his partner Irene Araujo; and three grandchildren; Andrew, Diego and Logan Gilleece. Peter leaves behind his brother Tommy and his sisters Kathy Denk, Sally Lamorgese, Rose Tomaro (John) and Eileen Addonizio (Armand); numerous fun-loving nieces and nephews as well as many friends and relatives.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 28th, from 2:00PM to 4:00PM and 7:00PM to 9:00PM at the Gosselin Funeral Home, 660 New Dover Road, Edison, NJ. Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 29, 2022, at 9:30AM at the funeral home followed by a 10:45AM Mass at St. John Vianney Church, Colonia, NJ. Cremation will be private.
