Pauline Syslo passed peacefully on Friday, January 24, 2025. Pauline was born February 9, 1935, in Jersey City, NJ to Robert and Wanda Liszewski. She attended Our Lady of Czestochowa School, Lincoln High School and Pratt Institute where she graduated with a B.A in Fine Arts. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church and sang in the choir where she met her future husband, Ron Syslo. They married in November 1956 and celebrated 65 years of marriage before Ron’s passing in 2022.
Pauline worked in New York City in the fashion industry before becoming a mom in 1959 to her son Joseph. In 1960, Pauline moved to Colonia, NJ. She became a teacher at St. John Vianney, teaching 5th grade English until retiring in 1981. But retirement didn’t last long as she was soon teaching at St. Helena’s for another two and a half years.
When she finally did retire she stayed active with the Polish Children’s Heartline and the Polish Cultural Foundation. And when her beloved grandsons, Michael and Luke, arrived she spent the next few years watching her grandsons.
She loved to travel, especially to Poland, where she met Lech Walesa and Pope John Paul II. She enjoyed Wycinanki, the Polish art of paper cutting, sewing and knitting.
She is survived by her devoted son Joseph and daughter-in-law Cathy, her two grandsons, Michael, and wife Elizabeth, and Luke, her brother-in-law Joseph as well as many cousins and friends.
