Nancy Jean Dougherty, 88, passed away on the 31st of August 2022, at Brighton Gardens, Edison, NJ. She was born in Lackawanna, New York on the 9th of May 1934 and was adopted later that year, on Christmas Eve, by Cecelia and George McCormick of New Brunswick, NJ.
Nancy was raised in New Brunswick, Belleville and Nutley, NJ. She fondly remembered attending the Mount Saint Mary Academy in Watchung, NJ, and later graduating from Queen of Peace High School in North Arlington, NJ, in 1950. After high school she:
• Was an FBI Steno Supervisor for 5 years prior to becoming a Legal Secretary. She later attended the Cittone School in Edison, NJ, and from 1996 until the spring of 2021 (at age 87) was a CertifiedCourt Reporter.
• Was married in 1958 to Charles Dougherty in Kearny, NJ and started their family in Carteret, NJ. The family then lived in Mountainside, NJ from 1968-1991 where she was active at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, member of the Rosary Society, and a Cursillista.
• Lived in Edison, NJ from 1991, where she was remarried, in 2000,to Rudolf Brauchle. At Age 83, through Ancestry.com, she was united with her birth family, and had the pleasure of meeting her siblings, Jack Mitchell and Joan Lenk and their families.
Nancy was a loving wife, and a proud mother and grandmother. Her faith and sense of humor got her through the good and difficult times along her journey. Family get-togethers and vacations at the shore were her favorite times.
Nancy was preceded in death by her ex-husband Charles Dougherty, her son Kevin Dougherty, and her brothers George and Jack Mitchell.
Nancy is survived by her spouse Rudolf of Edison, NJ; Nancy’s daughter Karen (Chuck) Rezac, son Mark (Chris) Dougherty, son Charles Dougherty; Rudolf’s son Charles Brauchle and daughter Victoria (Kevin) Madonna; her grandchildren Kelly (Dustin) Dahl, Ben (Jessica) Rezac and Olivia Rezac; Ryan Dougherty, Sean Dougherty and Corinne Dougherty; Elizabeth and Alexandra Madonna; and her great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Kennedy and Wade Dahl.
A visitation will be held at St. Helena RC Church, 950 Grove Ave., Edison, NJ at 9:15 a.m., the 8th of September 2022, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at 11:15 a.m. at Saint Gertrude Cemetery, 53 Inman Avenue, Colonia, NJ.
