It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Nancy DiLorenzo, who departed this life peacefully at the age of 96 on February 15, 2025. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother (Nanny), great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, who was admired for her unwavering compassion, resilience, and dedication to her family.
Born on April 13,1928 in Newark, New Jersey, Nancy led a life rich in love. She is survived by her children Phyllis, Toni (Frank), and Fred (Barbara) who will forever hold her memory dear. In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren Lora (Neil), Nancy (Steve), Liza (John), Amy (Michael), Jessica (Martin), Ashley (DJ), Allie (Dean) and her great-grandchildren Jackie, Danny, Makenna, JD, Maya, Dominic, Eli, Emi, Olivia, Leo, Cal, and Luna who will live to make their Nanny proud. Also survived by her nephew John (Karen) and great-nephews John and Matty, great-niece Nicole and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Alfonso and Michelina Granato, her husband Fred, her siblings Connie, Carmine, Lucy (her twin), Faye, Josie, and Jerry “Sonny”, her niece Debbie (Matthew) and her sons-in-law, Tony and Terry.
Born in Newark, she was a hairdresser and an entrepreneur who, in her twenties, established and successfully operated beauty salons, including Nans in Newark and DiLorenzo’s in South Plainfield and Metuchen. Her passion for fashion was evident in her impeccable style; she always adorned herself with the perfect accessories, shoes, and hairstyles, setting a standard of elegance and grace. A devout Catholic, she faithfully recited prayers for her family every night, embodying her deep spiritual commitment.
With a sharp wit and an unfiltered honesty, she brought laughter and wisdom to every room she entered. Her pride in her children was evident to all; she was their unwavering champion, celebrating their achievements with the enthusiasm of a queen honoring her heirs. As the queen of the family, her Sundays and holidays were dedicated to family, where she lovingly prepared her signature meals like meatballs, artichokes, fried potatoes, and steak pizzaiola which brought everyone together. An avid bingo and card player, she also enjoyed trips to AC, outings with the Star Dusters, and shopping excursions, always on the lookout for the next perfect addition to her wardrobe. Her talent extended to sewing, crafting curtains, scarves and blankets for her loved ones, ensuring each creation was tailored with love. Her strength and independence were matched only by her unique ability to make every family member feel special in their own way, leaving a legacy of love and individuality.
Her legacy of love, kindness, and strength will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and eternally remembered, and she will be forever in all of our prayers and hearts.
