Myrta Martinez Obituary

Our beloved mother Myrta M. Martinez, (Linden, NJ) 70 years of age, passed away on June 2nd 2020 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Rahway.
Myrta was born on October 3rd 1949 in Utuado Puerto Rico to Ernesto and Antonia Martinez. The second oldest of 6 children.
At the very young age of 16 years old Myrta and her eldest sister Sylvia moved to the United States. Myrta settled in Newark,  New Jersey, where she would live with her Aunt Margot, and would go on to be educated and attend Southside high school Newark.
While in Newark the creation of long lasting friendships were forged and friends soon became family. A tight knit group that lasted a lifetime and birthed endless moments and memories.
While at Southside High she would meet Robert De Leon long time high school sweethearts and later on both would attend Essex county college, and eventually Seton Hall university in South Orange, NJ.
Myrta married the late Robert De Leon who had passed in 2011, two children were born from their marriage Christopher N. DeLeon, and Andrea N. De Leon.
Myrta moved from Newark and settled in the North Edison New Jersey area for close to 30 years, before moving to Linden.
Myrta worked a majority of her career for the county of Union in the social services division, after transferring from Morris county social services division early on. It speaks volumes to her character that she undertook this career to help people that couldn't help themselves, and to do a service for Humanity as she did.
After her retirement from Union County Social Services she would take on a second residence in Miami Florida, where she would enjoy the beaches, the casinos and the night life it had to offer . A lover of life along with all the music, food and salsa dancing  anyone could handle.
