Melba passed away in Haven Hospice, Hackensack Meridian/JFK Medical Center at the age of 87. She was born in Staten Island, New York to Melberne Smith and Edith Lincoln and resided in Edison, NJ for 50 years.
She was predeceased by her husband Samuel Conrad Lester and her son Daryl Conrad Lester. She is survived by her two daughters Traci and Toni Lester; and her granddaughter Hailey Lester. She is also survived by a host of cousins including Jean, Rose Ann and Robert Johnson, her nieces and nephews, and an extended family of friends.
She was a devoted wife of 62 years and an amazing mother and caring grandmother. She was generous and kind and if you ever met her she was there to support and provide guidance. She loved her home and looked forward to family gatherings. She retired after decades with the Edison Township Board of Education.
A private ceremony will be held by the family in the future. The family requests that no donations or flowers be sent in her name
