Maureen A Sudia

Maureen A. Sudia (née Reilly), age 69, of Colonia passed away Saturday, December 18th, 2021. She was born in Elizabeth, NJ on June 17th, 1952. She spent her childhood in Elizabeth, and settled in Colonia, where she lived for over 40 years. She was a graduate of Jersey City State College and worked as an Elizabeth Public School Teacher for many years. She had many talents, held many other roles, and had many accomplishments, including being the author of a mystery novel. She was an avid gardener, dancer, casino craps gambler, and reader, but her greatest reading enjoyment came from the time that she read to her grandchildren.  Her grandchildren were her greatest passion and she enjoyed, teaching them, playing games with them, taking them to new places, and enriching their lives. 

She was a passionate mother and grandmother. As a single mother, she was a fierce provider, protector, and advocate for her children and grandchildren. She was a lover of people and animals and her huge heart always compelled her to take in and care for strays. She touched the lives of so many and she is well remembered for her kindness and generosity to others in need. Her love of those that she cared for was unconditional. 

Maureen is survived by, and will be greatly missed by her son, Jason Sudia, her daughter, Michele Sudia, her daughter in-law, Asha Iyer, her grandsons, Shane Sudia, Joell Zamora, and Ajay Sudia, her brothers William Reilly and Joseph Reilly, her nephew Patrick Reilly, her first husband Edward Sudia and her second husband Kenneth Geib. Throughout her life, her glow illuminated the lives of so many others; it will be missed but its warmth is still felt by those she leaves behind.

Visitation will be held at Gosselin Funeral Home, 660 New Dover Road Edison, NJ 08820 on Thursday, December 30th, 2021 from 2:00-3:00pm, 5:00pm to 8:00 pm and on Friday Decmber 31st at 9:00am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Helena’s Roman Catholic Church, Edison, NJ on Friday, December 31st, 2021 at 10:00 am. Interment will directly follow at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia. The repast will be canceled due to Covid concerns. Memorial service to be announced at a later date.
