Matthew Scott Hedden passed away October 24, 2021 at John F Kennedy Medical Center. He was 58 years old. Matthew was born in Morristown Medical Center moving from Bridgewater and North Brunswick before settling in Colonia 26 years ago. He served our country in the United States Air Force stationed in both San Francisco, CA and Okinawa, Japan. While in Okinawa, Matt worked as a Cryptologic Linguist and obtained National Security Agency (NSA) status. He worked in South Plainfield for over 30 years as a Production Manager within the precious metals industry.
Matt who was truly loved by all who knew him was predeceased by his father Eugene B. Hedden. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years Ellen M. Hedden (nee Catanese); his son Nicholas, his daughter Kelly; mother Virginia (Sally) Hedden; two brothers Gregory Hedden and his wife Peggy and Brian Hedden and his wife Katherine; his sister Nadine Jenkins and husband Duane; and numerous nieces and nephews and theirs spouses and children.
Matt will be fondly remembered for his love of all things Star Wars which he shared with his son Nick and his delight in going to Broadway shows with his daughter Kelly. Matt, a performer himself, played Alto Sax and also distinguished himself on stage as a “Dancing Dad.” His expansive collection of baseball caps is a perfect reminder of his love of travel and Matt typically expressed his unique fashion sense by wearing shorts and T-shirts in 40 degree weather. Mathew was never too busy to help a friend or neighbor and always did so with a smile. He loved to relax with his dog Ace while watching the History Channel, was a Civil War buff and sentimentally saved every text message and voicemail he ever received. Matt cherished his wife and children above all else. In fact, upon arriving home from work, he once told them “I walk in this door, see your face and it’s automatically a better day.” He will be
missed more than words could ever express.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 3:00-7:00 PM at the Gosselin Funeral Home at 660 New Dover Road, Edison, NJ 08820.
The family requests that those who wish to express sympathy consider making a donation to The
