Mary Ellermann Obituary

On Sunday, March 29, 2020, Mary Monica Ellermann, (nee Wandell) passed away at JFK Medical Center at the age of 85.

Mary was born in Jersey City on April 30, 1934, to George and Grace Wandell.  She was raised in Jersey City, graduated high school and worked as a bank teller where she met her future husband, Arthur.  Mary and Arthur married in 1959.  They lived in Hudson County for a few years before moving their growing family to Colonia in 1964.

Mary was a devout Catholic and communicant of St. John Vianney Parish in Colonia where she was also a member of the Altar Rosary Society.  She volunteered her services at the parish and helped cook and serve lunch during her children’s tenure at the parish school.

As a loving mother to six children, Mary saw to it that the Ellermann household was always full of family and friends.  Mary was known for making delicious chocolate chip cookies; every childhood friend was envious that she baked daily.  Sundays revolved around attending Mass and having extended family over for dinner: grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Mary worked at Hahne’s Department Store until her first grandchild was born in 1987.  She spent the rest of her years enjoying her growing family.  She spent as much time as she could with her grandchildren.  Mary loved her family deeply, and with her husband created cherished memories for all.  She never ended a phone call without telling you she loved you and always said “Good night. God bless you. I love you” before going to bed.

Mary was predeceased by her parents Grace and George, her loving husband of 60 years, Arthur Ellermann, Sr. and her dear sister Ann McManus.  She is survived by her six children, Marybeth (William) Brems,  Patricia,  Arthur Jr. (Teresa),  Linda (Joe) Lordi,  Judy Carney, and Melissa (Ralph) Campione.  She also leaves behind cherished grandchildren Jillian, Maggie (Michael), Jacob, John Henry (Morgan), Seton

(Liam), Chelsea (Brian), Mary Claire, Connor, Christian, Ryan, Michael, Madelyn, Kyle and Grace as well as her great-grandchildren Liam, Hadley, Robby and Delaney.

With the best interests of family and friends at heart, a celebration of Mary’s life will be held at a later date.  Donations in Mary’s name can be made to Team Rubicon https://teamrubiconusa.org/
