Mary C Capellupo, 88, of Edison New Jersey, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2022, surrounded by her loving and caring family.
Mary, born on May 10, 1934 to Lillian and Edmund Cunningham in Brooklyn NY immediately brought joy and laughter into the world. Mary went on to graduate from St. Joseph High School in Brooklyn in 1952 as an honor student. After graduating high school, Mary worked at Western Electric Defense Projects for many years. Over the years she also worked as a manager for Tupperware and as an administrative assistant for Centenary United Methodist Church in Metuchen NJ.
In 1954, She met Philip Joseph Capellupo, a handsome young gentleman from the neighborhood. Mary and Philip were married on August 28, 1954 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Brooklyn. They were married for over 62 years and had two beautiful children, Mary Jo and Daniel Thomas. Being a mother was one of the most important parts of Mary’s life, a role that gave her much pride and joy. The proud couple purchased their forever home in 1968 in Edison NJ on Ellmyer Rd.
Mary was an extremely active member of St. Helena’s Church and school community for many years. She served as the president of the Alter Rosary Society and was an Eucharistic minister.
She also served as PTA president and taught first grade CCD classes. In addition to her devotion to St. Helena’s, she was also active with Project Children for 20 years.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Philip Joseph Capellupo. She is survived by her daughter Mary Jo C. Schuhrer and her husband Gary, her son Daniel Thomas Capellupo and his wife Lydia; grandson Joseph Schuhrer and his wife Emily and their children Faith and Liam; grandson Michael Schuhrer and wife Francesca; granddaughter Kaitlin Capellupo and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation Wednesday May 25,2022 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at the Gosselin Funeral Home 660 New Dover Road Edison. Funeral Services Thursday May 26,2022 9:00am at the Funeral Home followed by a 10:30am Mass at St. Helena Church, Edison. Interment St Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia
