It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Marilyn Jean Evan, who passed away on November 16th, 2024 at the age of 84. Marilyn was
born in Nanticoke Pennsylvania on September 15, 1940 to Nicholas and Anna McGahagan. She was a proud graduate of Newport Township High School, and held a successful career as LPN at Perth Amboy Medical Center for 20 years.
In her youth in Glen Lyon, Pa. Marilyn grew up with her parents and two younger brothers, Paul and David McGahagan. She was impeccably smart being a lover of math and science.
Marilyn was also adventurous and a tomboy at heart, excelling at sports. She once had a snowball fight with her endlessly loving future husband Theodore “Ted” Evan before they knew they were destined to be together.
Marilyn had a very close relationship with all her family. They would do everything together from going to movies to traveling. Even in her young adulthood Marilyn had a wanderlust that would follow her into adulthood. She would travel to nearly all of the 50 states and many countries in Europe in her lifetime, bringing back mementos, brightly colored fridge magnets for her children and grandchildren to play with.
Marilyn knew Ted her whole life. They lived on the same street for some time, played in the same groups as children, and even attended the same schools. However, it wouldn’t be until a Polka dance in 1963, that their love would truly blossom and become a marriage of 58 years.
Marilyn is survived by her loving and dedicated husband, Ted and their three children, Karen Velasquez (Gustavo), Cheryl Capriotti (Chris), and Sean Evan. Marilyn and Ted built their house in Iselin from the ground up, and Marilyn truly made it a home. Whenever you visit them, there is a sense of comfort and calm, of love and warmth, of countless memories made and cherished.
She is also survived by six grandchildren Kelly, Sabrina, Tyler, Liam, Ryan, and Leo. Marilyn loved her grandchildren so much, sending them precious greeting cards and thoughtful gifts. There are countless photos throughout their childhoods that Marilyn took that will remind them of her support for years to come. Marilyn’s presence will be greatly missed while the memory of her love will live on with us in our hearts.
