Marie Gunthner (nee Bost), 95, passed away on Tuesday November 23, after a brief illness. Born on December 31, 1925, Marie spent her younger life in Newark and settled in Iselin, NJ with her husband Donald where she spent the majority of her life. Marie was employed for many years at the Gem Motel in Woodbridge, NJ and was actively involved with the Evergreen Senior Group and St. John’s Senior Group of Woodbridge, as well as the Colonia Senior Group. She was also very involved with the Iselin Volunteer Fire Company where her husband worked.
Marie had a passion for dancing and loved nothing more than doing a fun jitterbug on the dance floor, teaching line dancing classes with her best friend Rose, or taking a line dancing class. She could often be found with her radio and cassettes ready to teach a number and was dancing up until the end of her life. As a child, she would dance with her sister in her roller skates. As promised, she will be buried in her tap shoes so she can dance her way up in heaven. Marie also enjoyed playing cards and was a member of a card group for many years. Marie loved nothing more than going to the movies, hearing a great joke, reading, or spending time with her friends and family. She was known for wearing leopard prints, her love and similarities to Judge Judy, her beautiful hydrangea plants, attending Broadway shows, watching Dancing with the Stars, and her game shows. She will be deeply missed by her friends and family.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband Donald Gunthner Sr., her sister Margaret Coates, and her loving dogs. Surviving are her loving sons William Donnelly (Patricia) and Charles Donnelly, daughters in-law Alicyn Donnelly and Tara Gunthner, grandchildren Keith Donnelly (Melissa), Colleen Donnelly Coulter (Jim), Ryan Gunthner, great-grandchildren Brendan, Ella, and Audrey, brother Sonny Bost (Madeline), and her treasured caregiver Irishka Gomiashvili (Irene).
Visitation is Friday November 26, 2021 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm as well as 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Gosselin Funeral Home, 660 New Dover Road, Edison. Services are Saturday, November 27, 2021 from 10:30 am – 11:30 am followed by a Blessing at 11:30 am. Entombment will be at Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery, Woodbridge.
