Manuel Maria Goncalves

Manuel Maria Goncalves passed silently in his sleep on October 22, 2021 at the age of 67. He
was born on October 31, 1953 in the municipality of Loulé in the Algarve region of Portugal. In
1976, after completing his service in the Portuguese military, Manuel immigrated to the United
States where he lived in Washington, D.C. before getting married and moving to New Jersey.
Manuel is predeceased by his father Manuel Silva Goncalves and his mother Maria de Graça.
He is survived by his brother Joao Paulo, wife Silvia Maria, son David Manuel, daughter Victoria
Maria, as well as two granddaughters Artemis and Demeter.
In life, Manuel was proud of his family and heritage, putting all his energy into his children and
grandchildren despite the continuous battles with his health. He was a lifelong fan of soccer,
especially rooting for Benfica, or the Seleção Portuguesa during global tournaments. Manuel
also served the Portuguese community throughout his life as a member of the Beneficencia
Algarvia along with his wife. During his time there, he participated in several parades, benefit
dinners, as well as social and cultural events.

Visitation Monday October 25, 2021 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Gosselin Funeral Home 660 New Dover Road Edison.

Funeral Services Tuesday October 26, 2021 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a 10:45am mass at St John Vianney Church, Colonia.

Interment St Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia
