Mr. Lawrence L. Lee, affectionately known as “Larry”or “Len,” son of the late Lawrence and Ruth Lee was born in Blackville, S. C. in Barnwell County on January 09, 1941. He entered eternal rest comfortably at his residence in Avenel, New Jersey surrounded by family on Saturday, December 02, 2023.
When Larry’s parents migrated to Linden, New, Jersey,Larry received his early education in the Public Schools of Linden, N.J., graduating from Linden High School. He was gifted academically and ran track during his school years. After graduation, he was accepted into the United States Air Force and toured during the Vietnam War era.
After six years in the U.S. Air Force, Larry started working for Hyatt aka General Motors, in Clark N.J. as a Calibrator. Larry was always business minded and aspired to be an entrepreneur. He purchased his first building in Roselle, New Jersey and opened Len’s Liquor store on the lower level and housed tenants on the top level. Additionally, he purchased a two family in Newark, N.J., in which, was a rental property.
When Larry accepted Christ into his life he no longer wanted to be affiliated with selling liquor. He gave up the business and joined, People’s Baptist Church in the Bronx, N. Y. Later, Larry joined Faith Fellowship, located in Edison, N.J. The former Faith Fellowship is now EPIC International Church in Sayreville, N.J. He was a member of the At Home Bible Study, Prison and Pantry Ministries and a Decon for the last 30 years. He was instrumental in helping many students and adults acquire grants for college.
Larry was later employed by Singer-Kearfott in Little Falls, N.J. as a Mechanical Engineer working in the Aeronautics Division. He made the Guidance and Navigation Systems for the Minuteman and Trident Missiles, where he retired after 21 years of service. Thereafter, he worked for Primerica selling Life Insurance.
Larry had a passion for Martial Arts. He was a Black Belt in Judo and Karate. He was called, “The Ninja.” The Song by Carl Douglas, Kung Fu Fighting was played in our home often. He loved watching Martial Art movies starring Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jim Kelly or Chuck Norris. Additionally, he enjoyed playing pool, watching football, and boxing matches and going to the Horse Races.
He enjoyed listening to music and Jazz. Often, he would play the flute while listening to jazz. Larry was a natural born Orator and was a walking Encyclopedia filled with knowledge.
He was highly respected and revered as a caring, kind and compassionate person who desired to help others.He was extremely family oriented and was dedicated to his family.
When he spoke everyone listened, also, people knew, if they were to engage in a conversation with him that they needed to be knowledgeable on the subject matter.
Larry married the love of his life, Hattie Toni Lee and from that union their cherished children; Dondrell and Delice Lee were born. Larry instilled high morals and values into his children. They purchased their first home in Colonia, New Jersey, where their children attended Kindergarten through High School.
He was preceded in death by his beloved Sister Lorrainne and Brother Joseph and his treasured parents.
Larry leaves to hold onto his memories, his loving wife, Toni Lee, who loved him beyond measure of Avenel, N.J.; Beloved Son, Dondrell A. Lee, of Charolette, N.C.; Beloved Daughter, Delice Lee of New Jersey; Grandsons, Dondrell Lee II of Las Angeles, C.A.; Christopher Lee of Baltimore M.D.; Brandon Jackson of Baltimore, M.D.; Grand Daughter, Kimberely Lee of Augusta, G.A.; Brother Douglas Lee of Bloomfield, N.J.; Sister-In-Law, Lynda Lee also of Bloomfield, N.J.; Sister, Adrienne Lee of Newark, N.J.; Brother, Byron Halsey of Pennsylvania, Nephews, Nieseff & Christopher Lee and a host of nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
