Larry Arthur Donato,60, of Beachwood NJ, passed away after a monthlong fight in the hospital. Larry enjoyed horses, boating, and spending time with his family and many friends. He worked for the NJ Department of Corrections for 25 years before finally retiring. But in typical Larry style, he continued to stay busy through his work with the World Trade Center and by becoming a detective with the SPCA, followed later by president. Upon retirement, Larry also dedicated his time to the Casino Pier boardwalk as head of security for many years. Protecting animals and people was his passion. Larry was also a great storyteller. He could make even the most stoic person crack a smile. The world became a little dimmer when we lost Larry.
Larry was predeceased by his parents Louella Michaels and Joseph Donato and his grandparents Viola and Carmine Mazza. He is survived by his daughter Amanda Donato and husband Tristan Fernandez, and loving granddaughter Gianna. Larry is also survived by his longtime partner and fiancé Kerry Furey, daughter Megan Furey and daughter in law Nicole Kelly. He is also survived by his loving siblings; sisters Stacey Portillo and Alecia Michaels, and brother John Michaels. Nephews Daniel, Nick, and Govanni Portillo and Kristopher Michaels, as well as Uncle Frank Mazza. He was beloved by an incredible amount of family and friends.
