It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Lai Wan Yip, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, who peacefully passed away at her home in Edison, New Jersey, on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the age of 68. Lai Wan, known to her family and friends as a compassionate and vibrant woman, lived a life full of love, adventure, and creativity.
Born on May 5, 1957, in Hong Kong, Lai Wan was the cherished daughter of Kai Chau Li and Kwan Kum Li. She immigrated to the United States, where she pursued her passion for fashion by earning a degree from the prestigious Fashion Institute of New York. She worked for many years as a patternmaker, using her exceptional talent to craft intricate designs that would leave a lasting impact on the fashion industry. Her meticulous attention to detail and unwavering dedication to her craft earned her the respect of colleagues and clients alike. Lai Wan retired from her career, leaving behind a legacy of creativity and craftsmanship.
Outside of her work, Lai Wan was a woman of great character and enthusiasm. She had an undeniable passion for bargain hunting, and there was nothing she enjoyed more than finding beautiful clothing items or unique home goods at a great deal. Her talent for spotting hidden gems made her a legend among her family and friends, who would often rely on her keen eye for stylish yet affordable treasures.
Lai Wan also loved to travel, and throughout her life, she visited some of the world’s most iconic destinations. Paris and London were among her favorite overseas trips, where she would immerse herself in the rich culture, art, and fashion of these historic cities. Her last great adventure was an unforgettable overseas cruise tour that took her to Japan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. It was a journey that not only fulfilled her wanderlust but also allowed her to reconnect with her roots and experience the beauty of the world with her loved ones.
Lai Wan is survived by her devoted husband, Jimmy Yip, and their two sons, William and Bryan, who were the light of her life. She is also survived by her siblings: her sisters, Jane, Lai Ying, and Joann, and her brother, Wing Shun, as well as her extended family and many dear friends. Lai Wan was a loving mother, sister, and a constant source of support and encouragement for her family, always ready to lend a hand or offer a word of wisdom. Her family was everything to her, and she will be dearly missed by them, as well as by the many friends and colleagues who were fortunate to know her.
Lai Wan’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her. Her warmth, generosity, and adventurous spirit will be remembered fondly, and her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched.
