Katherine Pencak Obituary

EDISON - Katherine Pencak (née Hammond) entered Heaven’s Gate on September 3, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.  Born in San Diego, California, Katherine was the daughter of Navy Veteran Roy Hammond and his wife Pauline.

Among the many places she lived during her father’s military service include Corpus Christi, Texas; Honolulu, Hawaii; Norfolk, Virginia; Clark, New Jersey and Jacksonville, Florida, where she graduated from St. Paul’s High School in 1948.  These adventures inspired a lifelong joy of travel, which she also enjoyed with her loving husband, John.  Among the many trips they made together were journeys to 49 states in their 1990 Oldsmobile Station Wagon.  Her grandchildren will forever treasure the memories of their grandparents’ visits to Wisconsin and Vermont.

Katherine married John Pencak in April of 1952.  They moved to Edison, New Jersey in 1956, where they raised five children during the course of their 60 year marriage.  A devoted wife and loving mother, Katherine enjoyed cooking and baking for her family.  She also loved plants, flowers, and watching her favorite show Jeopardy.Faith and family were of the utmost importance to Katherine.  She was a member of the Rosary Society of St. Helena’s Church, the HK Ladies’ Auxiliary of Edison, and the Deutsche Club of Clark, New Jersey.

She will be remembered not only for her loving devotion to her family and her dedication to her church and religion, but also for her deadpan sense of humor. Under the most stressful of circumstances, Katherine would put people at ease with her straight-faced witticisms.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, John, of 60 years and her dear brother, Roy Hammond. Surviving are her five children John (wife Jean), Gregory (wife Joanne), Mary Goodman (husband Christopher), Daniel (husband David Lindsay), and Warren (wife Elizabeth), also four grandchildren Andrew, Matthew, Lucas, and Benjamin as well as much extended family.
