Josephine Irene, “Josie,” Spata, 95, of Edison, NJ, passed away on October, 31, 2025,
surrounded by family.
Josephine was born in Elizabeth, NJ to Mary and Theodore Dobrowolski on March 18, 1930.
She raised her two sons and then worked as an assembly worker at Retail and Wholesale
Department Store in South Plainfield, NJ for 10 years. She lived a full and independent life,
doing the things she loved. She was a devoted patron of St Helena Church who enjoyed
cooking, baking, bingo, gardening, sewing, crocheting, scratch-off lottery tickets, and spending
time with family.
She is survived by her son, Glenn of Jackson; daughter-in-law, Emelia; sister, Laura Nezol of
Lisbon Falls, ME; granddaughters Kathleen and Laura; great-grandchildren Leo, Kera and
Noah; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; her
son, Ronald; and nine siblings.
Visitation will be held at 660 New Dover Road, Edison, NJ 08820 on November 4, 2025 from
4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and November 5, 2025 from 8:30 am to 9:30 am, Gosselin Funeral Home
will be handling the funeral arrangements. Funeral service will be held at 950 Grove Avenue,
Edison, NJ 08820 on November 5, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Helena Church. Burial will follow at
St. Gertrude’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, 53 Inman Avenue,
Colonia, NJ 07067.
To all that knew her, loved her, and laughed with her will remember her as a bright light that
continues to shine in our hearts.
