John Paul Franco Obituary

John Paul Franco, 45, of North Edison, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of light—in both the literal and spiritual sense. Known for his adventurous spirit and a laugh that could light up any room, John Paul lived life fully, freely, and with a quiet strength rooted in faith.

A passionate lighting technician, John Paul traveled across North America—Canada, Mexico, and the U.S.—bringing brilliance to stages and stadiums. Whether working at Madison Square Garden during a high-profile political event featuring President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, or illuminating international soccer matches, doing lighting at Yankee stadium or at the NFL Draft events he always found joy behind the scenes. His career highlights included touring with global icons like Janet Jackson and Neil Young, as well as many other performers whose shows shined brighter thanks to his craft.

John Paul’s life was a vibrant tapestry woven with bold pursuits and unexpected adventures. In his younger years, he embraced the thrill of rollerblading through the neighborhood, gliding across ice hockey rinks, and even leaping from planes in his skydiving days. His curiosity led him to explore massage therapy, run his own landscaping business, and take on the challenges of warehouse management. No matter the path, John Paul approached every endeavor with energy, openness, and a heart full of enthusiasm.

Faith played a meaningful but quiet role in his life. A devoted member of St. Helena Roman Catholic Church for 37 years, John Paul’s connection to the church began early and never wavered. His love for backstage work was sparked in his school years at St. Helena Grammar School and St. Thomas Aquinas High School, where he first discovered the magic of the theater.

John Paul was predeceased by his loving parents, Arnaldo and Luisa Franco. He is survived by his sister Maria and her husband Aderito, his brother Arnold, his goddaughter Nicole, and his nephew Benjamin, along with many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will miss his humor, generosity, and spark.

John Paul Franco lit up stages across the continent—but more importantly, he lit up the lives of those who knew and loved him. His presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

To honor John Paul’s life and legacy: Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 3rd at 10:30 AM at St. Helena Church, 950 Grove Avenue, Edison, NJ.
