Business Owner, Pilot, Beloved Family Man
John “Jack” Smorol, Jr. passed away peacefully at Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains on June 8, 2018 surrounded by family.
Jack was born in Newark on December 27, 1932, to John and Molly (Pennella) Smorol. He attended Seton Hall Prep and served in the U.S. Army for three years. He moved to Colonia, and then to Edison where he resided for 48 years.
Jack owned and operated his business, Smorol Construction Company, in Rahway for over 60 years. There he made numerous close friends through his business relationships. He was an honorary member of the Colonia Fire Department. He was also a communicant of St John Vianney RC Church, Colonia for over 50 years. Jack was a private pilot and enjoyed many years of flying on the weekends in his Piper. He also spent the last 35 years vacationing at his condo on the beach in Cape May, his favorite place, where he was joined by his family and friends much of the time. He loved bicycle riding in Atlantic Highlands as well as to the Cape May Point.
John is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Louise. He is also survived by a brother, Robert, his daughters Kathleen (Walter) and Barbara (Tom); grandchildren Tracy (Ryan), John (Jennifer), Kristy (David) Jacqueline, Christopher (Maggie) and Jamie; great grandchildren Cameron, Andrew, and a baby girl due in July. He will be missed dearly by all those who knew him, especially his grandchildren who cherished him.
Visitation will be held Wednesday June 13, 2018 from 4:00PM- 8:00PM at Gosselin Funeral Home 660 New Dover Road, Edison. Funeral Service Thursday June 14, 2018 at 8:30AM at the Funeral Home followed by a 9:30AM funeral mass at St. John Vianney Church, Colonia. Entombment to follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia
