John Henry Kimball Jr., 92, of Iselin, NJ went to join his loved ones in heaven on Monday, August 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born in Plainfield, NJ on February 1, 1932, to John and Leahlia Kimball (deceased). He resided in Edison as a child, and from his teen years on he lived and raised his family in Iselin, NJ. John was pre-deceased by three of his brothers—Richard, Charles, and Gary. He is survived by his youngest brother Thomas.
John graduated from Woodbridge High School. He worked as a plant manager for many years at Leeland Tube and later at Northern Feather.
John was an avid bowler, bowling on teams and in senior tournaments. As an outdoorsman, he enjoyed trout fishing, sharing the sport with numerous family members. A passion of his was turkey hunting. He was one of the very few people who was able to obtain the Royal Slam, which consists of a turkey from each of the five geographical regions of the US, and was also the only person to get the New Mexico Grand Slam (all three varieties of turkey in New Mexico). John was a dedicated member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, and the NJ Spruce Run chapter. He volunteered many hours to issues close to his heart, including disabled veterans and young hunters, helping set up and facilitate accessible hunts for all. He also worked toward sustainability by preserving the habitat and ensuring that the species continued to thrive. John loved horseshoes and cornhole, even winning the Woodbridge Township Senior Olympics for his age group a few years ago. A diehard Yankees fan, he was very disappointed in their performance this year.
John became a member of New Dover United Methodist Church when he was baptized and confirmed in 1945, culminating in his becoming the longest member ever. This was acknowledged during the church’s 175th anniversary last Fall. He was one of the lucky few who was baptized, confirmed, married, and laid to rest out of the same house of worship.
John was also pre-deceased by his loving wife of 71 years, Marilyn, who he tenderly cared for during her last years. He is survived by his three daughters Karen (Joseph Seickel), Alice (Jonathan Lamoreaux), and Gail (Robert Engel); his 8 grandchildren Kevin, Joseph, Jeffrey, Ryan, Erin, Melanie, Robert, and Jacob; and his 8 great-grandchildren Casey, Riley, RJ, Serah, Kenley, Quentin, Rene, and Murphy. He was pre-deceased by his great-grandson Nate.
John will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s name to: New Dover United Methodist Church, 687 New Dover Road, Edison, NJ 08820, or New Jersey State Chapter, NWTF, c/o Jackie Hill, Treasurer, 262 Burnt Meadow Road, Ringwood, NJ 07456 (please note on the check “For Habitat Work”).
