It is with great sadness and extremely heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Michael Galvin, 74, of Monroe, NJ. John passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 28, 2022. He was born on March 17, 1948 in Manhattan, NY, grew up in New York City, graduated from Bishop Dubois High School in 1966, and attended Saint John University.
John was in the Army National Guard, worked for the NY Athletic Club, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan, St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan, John F. Kennedy hospital in Edison, NJ, the Star Ledger, and retired from the Woodbridge Township Transportation Department in 2018.
John raised his family in Colonia, NJ and was a proud servant to his community. He was the President of the Woodbridge Township Youth Recreation Council for over 20 years, Union Vice President for the Woodbridge Township Transportation Department, Colonia Recreation Department Supervisor, Colonia Basketball Treasurer, co-ran the Fords Girls Softball League, Secretary of the Woodbridge American Irish Club, umpired for Woodbridge Township, and most recently was a Board Member at The Ponds Retirement Community in Monroe, NJ.
John was an avid fan of the NY JETS, he went to his first game on Thanksgiving day 1961 when they were the NY Titans, and has been a season ticket holder since 1971. He also loved watching and cheering for the LA Dodgers, NY Mets, and NY Rangers. He loved a good cup of coffee from Dunkin, reading the NY Post, and talking on the phone. John loved spending time with family and friends and going to his grandchildren’s sporting events. He never missed an opportunity to be present at family milestones, enjoyed life to the fullest, and was extremely generous to those in need.
John enjoyed a nice cold beer, a good steak, loved black and white cookies, and black raspberry ice cream. John had an unforgettable giggle, was a straight shooter, and loved listening to music and going to concerts. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, pop pop, uncle, Godfather, cousin, and friend to many. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
John was predeceased by his parents, Paul Frederik and Margaret Josephine (Goggins) Galvin. John is survived by his loving wife Marie (Pease) Galvin, and their daughters Mary Ellen (Meg) Troiano and her husband Joe, Kerry Anne O’Connor, Kathryn Michelle Fragoso and her husband Sal, Jennifer Marie Kimmell and her husband Adam, and Erin Margaret Then and her husband Steven, his brother Paul William Galvin and his wife Patricia, his brother Michael James Galvin and his wife Patti Anne, his brother-in-law Jay Pease and his wife Lisa, his nephews James Paul Galvin and his husband Frank, Michael Thomas Galvin and his wife Jessica, Jerome Brendan Galvin, Conor William Galvin, his nieces Elizabeth Ann Galvin and her husband Kevin, Maureen Rose Arditi and her husband Brian, and Brittany and Carly Pease, his great nephews Paul Bruno Arditi, Jack Sawyer Galvin and his great niece Josephine Wynn Arditi, the Goggins and Piggott families, and last but certainly not least - his adoring grandchildren Joseph Paul and John Michael Troiano, Luigi Giacomo Avenia, Madeline Donna O’Connor, Liam Nicholas and Christian Daniel Then, Mia Eleanora Kimmell, and Sal Francisco and Prudence Aurelia Fragoso who will continue to make their Pop Pop proud.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Gosselin Funeral Home 660 New Dover Road in Edison, NJ. Funeral Services are on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Saint John Vianney RC Church in Colonia. Interment will be at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
