John M Evers

John M. Evers of Iselin died on Thursday Dec. 17 at Haven Hospice in JFK Medical Center in Edison. He served our country as a Marine from 1949-1953 as a Technical Sergeant. He was born and raised in Newark before moving to Iselin in 1961. He retired in 2014 at the age of 84 as a security guard for VCT.

He is predeceased by his wife Lillian (McGrath) Evers. His parents Julia and Adrian Evers, his brothers Adrian, Richard, Edward and sister Dorothy.

Surviving is her daughter Joan Allan and her husband Lloyd. His grandson Gordon Allan (Kristen), granddaughter Lesley Allan and four great grandchildren, Isabella, Oliver, Sebastian and AJ. Also surviving is his sister Margaret Nimeth. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, dear friends and neighbors.

He was an avid reader, enjoyed the Monmouth Race Track, bus trips to AC, scratch lottery tickets and crossword puzzles.

Visitation will take place from 4-6 on Monday December 21 at the Gosselin Funeral Home. There will be a blessing on Tuesday December 22 at 10 AM, interment will follow at St. Gertrude cemetery  in Colonia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Toys for Tots or Wounded Warriors.

There will be no repast at this time, the family will plan a memorial.
