Joanne F Fenlon

Joanne (Schmitt) Fenlon passed away peacefully at her home in Colonia, NJ surrounded by her loving family. Born in Gary, Indiana on December 14, 1933, Joanne moved to Elizabeth, NJ as a young woman to pursue training as a registered nurse at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. She married Thomas (Mickey) Fenlon in 1958, and together they raised four children, and welcomed nine grandchildren into the world. Joanne loved her family unconditionally and enjoyed nothing more than being with them. A nurse through and through, she felt privileged to care for her patients and comfort their loved ones. During her long career, Joanne worked in many settings including the ER, labor and delivery, pediatrics, intensive care, critical care, and nursing administration at Rahway Hospital and JFK Medical Center. In addition, she helped train new CNAs, hoping to inspire them to pursue a career caring for others. A strong believer in reading and learning, Joanne earned a BSN degree in 1985. She loved Irish music, British mysteries, travel, and sewing. Joanne was a long-time member of St. John Vianney Altar Rosary Society. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Thomas (Mickey) Fenlon, her parents, Marian Ingles and Leo Peter Schmitt, her siblings Viola, Thomas, James, Robert, Judith, Margaret, Mary Margaret, and Leona. Surviving are her daughters, Ellen Beal (Brad) and Elise Jazikoff (Frank), her sons, Thomas Fenlon (Sharon) and Michael Fenlon (Susanne), and her nine grandchildren Shannon, Devon, Mickey, John Ryan, Kathleen, Michael (Julie), Colleen (Brent), Joseph, and Tara.

Visitation Tuesday, November 23, 2021, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Gosselin Funeral Home 660 New Dover Road, Edison. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am at St. John Vianney Church in Colonia. Burial will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
