Joan Ruetsch, age 90, passed away November 9, 2021 at her home in Colonia, NJ. Joan was born and raised in East Orange, NJ and graduated from East Orange High School. Following high school she was employed as a bookkeeper at the G. Krueger Brewing Company in Newark.
Joan and her husband Raymond Ruetsch were married 51 years until he passed away in 2009. They built their own home and lived in Edison for over 40 years before moving to Colonia. She was a loving, caring and supportive wife, mother and grandmother and great grandmother.
Joan was an active member of the Elmora Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth, NJ where she enjoyed singing in the church choir and organizing various church social events. She and her husband also volunteered for the Arthritis Foundation for many years. Joan and her husband also started the Ray-Mar Party Decorating business that they ran for several years. She enjoyed making centerpieces and other decorations for a variety of local events.
She loved being a stay-at-home mother to her daughter and son. She also loved cooking, baking and hosting dinners and holiday parties for family and friends. She was also an avid reader and always happy to play card games and Yahtzee with her family.
Joan is survived by her daughter Cynthia Ruetsch; her son Raymond Ruetsch, Jr. and his wife Michelle; her 3 grandsons, Brandon, Zack and Kyle; her step grandchildren, Erika and Mark Kitz and Chris and Cindy Braun, her five great grandchildren, Charlie, Tyler and Andrew Kitz and Olivia and Austin Braun; and her brother Wayne Wirta.
Joan was predeceased by her husband Raymond Ruetsch, Sr. and her daughter-in-law, Karen King.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate a donation to the Arthritis Foundation or a tree planted in Joan’s memory.
