Janet Krasowski Obituary

Janet D. Krasowski, 68, died on April 2, 2021 at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ. Janet was born on August 31, 1952 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Frank Krasowski and Helen (Kryston) Krasowski. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Janet considered herself a lifelong New Yorker (even though she lived in New Jersey for the last 33 years).

Janet was a proud alumna of the CUNY system, graduating from Brooklyn College in 1974. The first in her family to finish college, Janet went on to get an MBA in Human Resources Management from Pace University in 1985. Taking classes at Pace, she met her future husband, William DeFeo. They were married for 30 years.

Janet retired from her career as Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at New Jersey’s Provident Bank in 2020. She found great satisfaction in her achievements throughout her career, and loved the camaraderie and challenges that every day at work brought her. During her tenure at Provident Bank, she was particularly proud of her work to mentor young women trying to move up in the corporate environment, her spearheading of the company’s Student Loan Paydown Program, and her efforts to raise the minimum wage and address wage gaps within the institution.

Janet loved to travel—whether to Mohonk, New York, or Bangalore, India—but also relished simply looking out of her window and watching the seasons go by. She lived a full and beautiful life and enjoyed shocking her daughters a little with her stories. She partied with the Rolling Stones but lately was happy to sit in her comfortable chair, read a book, and catch up with her friends on the telephone. She read seemingly every story in the newspaper and carried on her husband’s habit of sending people references to stories they would be interested in.

Janet was predeceased by her parents and her husband Bill. She is survived by her daughters Janine and Christina DeFeo and son-in-law Abhishek Kumar. She is also survived by her sister Barbara Ryan and nephew Jason Ryan of Queens, NY.

A viewing will be held for immediate family and close friends on April 12, 2021 from 4 to 8 pm at Gosselin Funeral Home in Edison, NJ, and a funeral service will be held on April 13, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Scotch Plains, NJ. Masks and social distancing are required at these services, and double-masking is recommended. The funeral service will be live-streamed (access details below). Janet will be interred at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery in Colonia, NJ next to her beloved husband Bill.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Janet Krasowski in a special way may make a gift in her memory to the Rutgers University Center for Women and Work, to honor the recent work Janet did with their Level Up!
