With profound sadness, we say goodbye to James J. Sulva of Old Bridge, New Jersey. James was born October 8th, 1937 to Anna and Edward Sulva. He graduated from Linden High School in 1955 and enlisted in the Navy. From June 1955 to 1958 he served in the Mediterranean, primarily in Turkey and Greece.
Following his distinguished military service from the Navy, he attended Newark State College (Kean University), earning his B.A, and M.A. James was employed by the Roselle Park Board of education for five years as a math teacher, and thirty years as a guidance counselor. He worked part-time for The Elizabeth Town Water Company in the accounting department for thirty years.
James married Joan Morrison in 1965, and had three children: James M., John J., and late daughter Jean Elizabeth (pictured in the above image.) James is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, two sons, Daughter in law (Christine Sulva), Son in law, (Edward P. Gonsalves), three grandchildren: (Edward J. Gonsalves, Marissa A. Gonsalves, Lucy J. Sulva), and two great grandchildren: (Jean Elizabeth Handville, and Joseph Handville III).
He enjoyed playing golf in his free time, frequenting flea markets, and going for long walks throughout the neighborhood. James was a wealth of wisdom, and had a story for every occasion. He found great pride in his family, and made it clear to everyone how much he valued their presence. As the strongest pillar of his family, he may be gone but his legacy lives on. We wish James eternal peace as he rests in heaven holding his little girl once again.
