James Geritano Obituary

James G. Geritano, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed peacefully at the age of 80 on July 16, 2021. He was predeceased by his wife, Molla Nadine Rosen Geritano, and his three siblings Louise, Anthony and Frank. He is survived by his son Evan Geritano and his wife Hallie (Volz) Geritano and their three children Kirk, Deanna, and Katie; and his daughter Beth (Geritano) Tschopp and her three children Jessica, Christopher, and Emily; and his daughter Lisa (Geritano) Flores and her husband James Flores and their two children Matthew and David. James was born on October 13, 1940, in Brooklyn, NY to Frank and Catherine Geritano. He grew up in Brooklyn, graduated from St. Leonard’s Academy in 1956, was drafted into the Army in 1963, and married his wife on December 20, 1964. They started their family in Elizabeth, NJ, and moved to Edison shortly thereafter where they resided for over 40 years. James was a professional dancer in his youth as well as an avid flute player, which he started playing while in the Army. He was a member of the Westfield Band for several years while working in retail. His last place of employment was at Hilliard Farber and Company, a bond brokerage, where he retired at the age of 65. He moved to South Plainfield four years ago to live with his daughter, Beth. James was a proud father and grandfather. He would attend as many school plays, sporting events, and dance recitals that he could for all of his grandchildren. He loved the holidays and barbecues with his children and grandchildren, and always looked forward to visiting his family in Brooklyn. You could find him in Atlantic City on most weekends playing his penny slots. James will be remembered as everyone’s Poppy. His love extended well beyond his family, and he will be missed. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made in his name to The Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org)
