Dr. Jaime de Guzman, 92, of Edison and Brick, NJ, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026. A deeply loved son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend.
Born in Guimba, Philippines, on September 14, 1933, Jaime immigrated to the United States in 1963 and settled in Edison, where he and his wife, Teresita, raised their family.
Jaime is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Teresita; his daughter Theresa de Guzman and granddaughter Isabella de Guzman Mould; his daughter Carlotta DePietro and her husband, Jim DePietro, and grandson Jake DePietro; and his youngest daughter, Liza Galido, and her husband, Alexander Galido. He is also survived by his brother, Eliseo de Guzman, and his sister, Andrea Garcia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Armando and Julita de Guzman, and his siblings Mercedes, Purificacion, Gloria, Amanda, Manuel, Rafael, and Aurora.
Jaime began his career in medicine as a resident at Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo, NY. He later moved to New Jersey, where he served as Chief Surgical Resident at Beth Israel Hospital in Newark. He was a dedicated Emergency Medicine physician at JFK Hospital in Edison for more than 30 years. In 1980, he became one of the first physicians to open an urgent care center, MedStop Minor Emergency Center, and he also worked as a General Surgeon at St. Peter’s Hospital in New Brunswick, where he touched countless lives.
He will be remembered for his quiet, gentle nature, kind heart, and corny sense of humor. Family was at the center of his life, and his love for them was unwavering. His marriage to Teresita was marked by a quiet, enduring love and a deep connection that carried them through every chapter of life.
After retiring, he especially enjoyed spending winters in Naples, Florida. Jaime cherished time with his girls, and his happiest moments were spent simply being with them. He was the best “Girl Dad.”
