Irene (Dolgos) Umbel

Irene (Dolgos) Umbel, Age 79 of Martinsburg, West Virginia formerly of Edison, New Jersey, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022. Irene was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey  on December 16, 1942, to the late Charles and Ida Dolgos.  She was raised in Linden, New Jersey and graduated from Linden High School in 1960.

Irene started her professional career at United Counties Trust Company in Linden as a Bookkeeper.  She later worked at Macy’s in Human Resources for six years at Menlo Park.  Irene was subsequently employed by Midlantic Bank also in Human Resources and prior to retirement worked for Multicultural Family Institute. Irene retired early to take loving care of her mother, Ida until her passing.

Irene’s talents were many including all forms of dance as a performer, instructor, and choreographer. She was an accomplished cook, seamstress, and homemaker.  She was very proud of her Hungarian heritage and was known for her delicious traditional meals.

Irene is a longtime member of Reformed Church of Linden.  Irene was a Sunday school teacher for many years and served as Superintendent of the Primary Department.  She served on numerous church committees over the years including fundraising, Chairwoman for the Annual Christmas Bazaar and Women’s Group. Irene cherished the entire church community but especially her lifelong friendships of which she lovingly spoke of often.

Irene was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother always putting family first. Irene will be sadly missed by her daughter  Angele (Umbel) Arnason and husband Brian Arnason of Miami, Florida, and her daughter Suzette (Umbel) Redka and George Redka of Leesburg, Virginia; and her four grandchildren Arni Arnason, Natasha Redka, Morgan Arnason, and Nadia Redka. She is survived by her brother Charles Dolgos.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday evening, March 17, 2022, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Gosselin Funeral Home, 600 New Dover Road, Edison, New Jersey. A Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 18, 2022, at 10 a.m. in Reformed Church of Linden, 600 N Wood Avenue, Linden, New Jersey.  Inurnment will immediately follow at Saint Gertrude Cemetery, 53 Inman Avenue, Colonia, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Reformed Church of Linden.
