Harrison Butterfield Obituary

Harrison Charles Butterfield, 95, of Edison (formerly Colonia) passed away peacefully on September 30, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Harrison, known to most as “Bud”, was born on August 19, 1929, to Benjamin Butterfield and Emily Hoser.  A true Jersey boy, Bud grew up in Jersey City, where he attended William L. Dickinson High School and played on the high school basketball team.

After graduating, Bud enlisted in the Air Force. A Korean War Veteran, he served from June 1950 – January 1955, including two years in Tokyo, Japan. Later that year, in August 1955, Bud married his Maryland sweetheart, Frances Earlette Butterfield. They met while he was stationed in Washington, D.C. Bud returned to Jersey City and Bayonne, where he attended college and worked as a Draftsman at Colgate-Palmolive, but he ultimately settled at Graver Water Systems, where he remained for 35+ years. He retired at age 65 as Graver’s Senior Design Engineer.

Bud was known for: his love of automobiles and all things mechanical, his love of basketball and football, being a “Mr. Fix-It”, and serving at New Dover United Methodist Church.

After retiring, he was the church flea market general manager for 20 years. He also enjoyed camping with his wife, dog, and granddaughters, Rachel and Renee.

Bud lived in Colonia for 57 years. In his final 2 years, he resided at Brighton Gardens of Edison. He is preceded by his wife, Earlette (in 2022), and survived by his two daughters, Lori Ann Butterfield and Cheryl Lynn Tamashunas.
