Gonzalo Mancheno, of Chester NJ passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021. He was 94. Born in Riobamba, Ecuador, he lived in Newark before moving to Edison in 1965. Gonzalo had a successful career as a captain and engineer in the Ecuadorian army before coming to the United States. In the United States, he owned his own business and then went into social work, positively influencing and helping many through his work. Throughout his life Gonzalo loved to open his home to family. In Edison, extended family would visit on Sundays in the summer to swim, laugh, play soccer and poker; many endearing memories were made at his home. He exercised throughout his life, walking outside and riding his exercise bike everyday. He was an avid gymnast and equestrian in the army. He also loved nature. Gonzalo treasured his beloved wife Gloria of 65 years, his children and their families. Surviving Gonzalo are his four children and families: sons and daughters-in-law, Edward & Kathryn of Monmouth Junction, Anthony & Sally of Bradenton, FL and George & Maria of Westfield; daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline & Jim Cohen of Chester; and his 9 grandchildren, Michael, Jessica, Christina, Nicholas, Christian, Julia, Matteo, Alexander and Sofia; and 2 great-grandchildren, Alexander and Olivia.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 6th from 8:30 am – 10:30 AM at the GOSSELIN FUNERAL HOME, 660 New Dover Road, Edison, with a funeral mass at 11:00 AM at ST. AGNES CHURCH, 332 Madison Hill Rd, Clark, NJ 07066. Cremation will be held privately.
