Gerald Varga Obituary

Gerald (Jerry) Varga of Edison, NJ, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at home surrounded by his immediate loving family.

Born and raised in Perth Amboy, Jerry graduated from Perth Amboy High School in 1955. Upon marriage, Jerry resided in Keasbey before moving to Edison in 1968. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, having honorably served in Korea and a recipient of the Korea Defense Service Medal. Jerry was also an active member of VFW Post 3117 in Edison.

Jerry retired from PSE&G, having worked in the accounting department. During his retirement years he enjoyed traveling with his wife, his most memorable trip being a cruise through the Panama Canal. He took great pride in his Lionel Train layout and enjoyed many other hobbies including raising and racing pedigree pigeons as well as playing cards, darts, and shooting pool with fellow veterans at the VFW. Another of Jerry’s favorite pastimes was sitting in his backyard feeding and watching the birds, with his dog (Sunny) always nearby.

Jerry was the eldest of six children and is predeceased by his parents, Casimir and Irene Varga, his sister, Joan Snuszka and his brother, Gary. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Elaine (Molnar), his son, Jerry (Rachel), and his cherished grandchildren, Liam and Lexi.  Jerry is also survived by his brothers Thomas and Donald and his sister Eileen Nielsen.

An avid fan of the NY Mets, Jerry’s love of baseball began at an early age when he was a midget baseball champ for Triangle Diner. His fondness of baseball continued throughout his life, where Jerry proudly coached his son’s Little League team for several years.

Funeral service will be private on Friday, July 17, 2020 under the direction of Gosselin Funeral Home, Edison, NJ.

Service will follow at William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, North Hanover Township, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jerry’s memory to the VFW, Post 3117, 53 National Road, Edison, NJ 08817
