George E Wittmann, Sr. passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday November 20, 2021 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was born and resided in Elizabeth before moving to Colonia in 1956.
He proudly served our country in the United States Navy. George worked for United Airlines in Newark for 37 years as a Maintenance Foreman before retiring in 1993. He was the founding member of the United Airlines Retiree Group (Garden Staters).
He was an Assistant Scout Leader for Boy Scout Troop # 42 in Colonia for over 20 years. He loved his trips to Canada and cooking for the Scouts. George was an avid sailor, former Commodore and former House Chairman for the Keyport Yacht Club as well as an active member. George always loved to help with the Junior Sailing Club Regatta. He had a green thumb for gardening and loved to share his fruits of labor with family and friends. His family meant the world to him and he will be dearly missed.
George is predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years Marie Wittmann (2011), his sons Thomas J Wittmann, (2005) and his infant son Michael (1959), his parents Henry and Theresa Wittmann, his brother Henry Wittmann (2017).
Surviving are his children George E Wittmann, Jr. and his wife Maryann, Christopher Wittmann, Sr. and his wife Jackie, Gregory Wittmann and his partner Cathy, Jeffrey Wittmann, Matthew Wittmann and his wife Linda and his loving and devoted daughter Joanne Wittmann who was his most compassionate caregiver and meant the world to him. George is also survived by his grandchildren Jennifer Dauby and her husband Sebastien, George E Wittmann lll and his wife Kerry, Sarah Shankweiler and her husband Michael, Jessica, Christopher Jr., Adrian, Stefanie, Dominic, Sam, Charlie and Theo also 5 great grandchildren Olivia and Isabella Shankweiler, George E Wittmann IV, Rose Wittmann and Elijah Dauby and a new great granddaughter due in March.
Visitation Friday November 26, 2021 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Gosselin Funeral Home 660 New Dover Road, Edison. Funeral Services 8:00am Saturday November 27, 2021 at the funeral home followed by a 9:00am Mass at St. John Vianney Church in Colonia. Burial will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
