Frances Sarah Gilleece (nee McCloskey), passed away peacefully on November 13, 2021, at home
surrounded by her loving family.
Frances was born in Newark and grew up in Vailsburg. She and her husband Peter raised their family in
Irvington, before moving to Colonia in 1979.
Frances was a teacher librarian for the Irvington Board of Education for 28 years and taught at Grove
Street and Florence Avenue Schools. Frances was very active with the Woodbridge Irish Association, the
Woodbridge Seniors Association, McGovern’s Association, the West Orange Women of Irish Heritage
and the Women of Irish Heritage Jersey Shore.
Frances camped with her family and friends for years and loved traveling, especially to Falcarragh and
Rathmullan, County Donegal, Ireland where her parents hailed from. Frances expressed a wish to have
people wear colors and not black to her funeral as she loved life and always embraced beauty.
Frances was predeceased by her parents Phillip and Hannah McCloskey, her brothers Patrick and
Terrance McCloskey and her sister Ann Belardo. Surviving are her husband of 63 years Peter J. Gilleece,
her children; Peter Gilleece, Chris Gilleece, Eileen Greaves and her husband Michael, James Gilleece and
his wife Damaris, Michael Gilleece and his partner Irene Araujo; and three grandchildren; Andrew, Diego
and Logan Gilleece. Frances also leaves behind her cousin Lily Gallagher, dear friend Bridget Cahill,
numerous loving brother and sister-in-laws, as well as spirited and loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 18, 2021, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the
Gosselin Funeral Home, 660 New Dover Road, Edison, NJ. Funeral Services will be held Friday,
November 19, 2021, at 8:15am at the funeral home followed by a 9:30am Mass at St. John Vianney
Church, Colonia, NJ. Cremation will be private.
A repass will take place in LouCas Restaurant 9 Lincoln Highway, Edison, NJ 08820 at 11:30 a.m.
